The history of Ceylon cinnamon as a trade

Ceylon cinnamon, the name itself reveals the long history of this remarkable plant. In 15th century, Sri Lanka was invaded by Portuguese and started commercializing the product Ceylon cinnamon in their trades. Then the rule of Portuguese was overthrown by the conquer of Dutch which came in 1640 with the ownership of Ceylon cinnamon trade and it went until the governance is being handed over to British in 1796. Hence British enjoyed the essence of the Ceylon cinnamon trade until the country is being declared independent in 1948.

Prior to the modern food preservation technology, European nation has used cinnamon with pepper as an ancient preservative. Furthermore, Ceylon cinnamon is being used in many Asian food and tea due to its unmatchable fragrance and taste.
